Summer’s here! Thinking of taking up running…here’s a few tips to reduce the chance of injury.
The weather has finally warmed up….for now at least! This means that many people will be playing more sport, in particular marathon season is upon us!
Running, in particular puts an enormous strain on our muscles and joints. So if you’re planning on taking part in anything from a 5K run to a full marathon here are a few ways to reduce the inevitable discomfort that follows!
- Always warm up!
- Ice. This is an extremely effective way of alleviating the pain of joint problems.
- Heat. (Just to confuse you!) Is great for muscle relaxation.
- Stretch. It’s important to stretch following activity.
- Always warm down…even if you don’t feel like it after all that exertion!
Finally, don’t let that little niggle that’s been bothering you in the background progress to an injury. Most running injuries are due to the repetitive nature of the sport and Chiropractic is a great way of ensuring that the body continues functioning optimally during the increased demand that’s placed on your body during training.
